Shonda’s work with birthing women and their families began in 1989 when she and a friend founded VBAC of Tarrant County, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas, to provide education in birth choice for women. She taught childbirth classes, provided herbal medicine consulting services for midwives and their clients, and birthed seven babies as she wrote her books, Naturally Healthy Pregnancy, Mommy Diagnostics, Naturally Healthy Woman, and Naturally Healthy Herbs.

She formulated and consulted for supplement companies and developed her own line of Intimate Solutions oil and bath products and Naturally Healthy supplements in her own practice. She also wrote and developed the Naturally Healthy Herbalist Training Courses for the various needs of those who wished to learn how to use herbs and nutritional supplements as medicine, also helping her students launch and build their own herbalist practices and schools.

Following Shonda’s passing in 2020, the Naturally Healthy office was manned by  members of the Parker Family until the recent acquisition of the business by Shonda’s daughter, Emily Southerland. Emily worked under Shonda for over ten years and now uses that training to carry on Shonda’s legacy.
